Sara is a 20-year-old young person, originally from West Africa, who is in full-time education and enjoys going to church and participating in voluntary activities organised by her church.

Sara was trafficked to the UK as at the age of 14, and was given a false identity by her traffickers that said she was aged older than 20. In the UK she was prosecuted for using forged documents and age disputed. She received a positive conclusive grounds decision from the National Referral Mechanism and was recently granted refugee status.

She has received ongoing support from her solicitor, social worker from the NSPCC Child Trafficking Advice Centre and the local authority. Sara is an active member of the NSPCC Child Trafficking Advice Centre young people’s advisory group and regularly participates in awareness raising work.

Listen to this audio interview, conducted by a social worker from the NSPCC team who has worked with Sara for five years, to find out about Sara’s experiences of child trafficking and the importance of the support she received from professionals in the UK.
