The Adoption (Intercountry Aspects) Act 1999 is the vehicle by which the UK has implemented the Hague Convention on Inter-Country Adoption. It also makes provision about adoptions from countries that have not signed up to the Hague Convention
For the most part, the Adoption and Children Act 2002 came into force on 30 December 2005. It governs all aspects of the adoption process in England and Wales, from support services to court proceedings and the legal status of adoption.
