The Children and Adoption Act 2006 has two main purposes. First, to promote compliance with contact orders made under the Children Act 1989. Second, to permit the secretary of state to suspend adoptions from abroad where there are concerns about the foreign country’s adoption practices.
The Adoption (Intercountry Aspects) Act 1999 is the vehicle by which the UK has implemented the Hague Convention on Inter-Country Adoption. It also makes provision about adoptions from countries that have not signed up to the Hague Convention
