Social Care Legislation

Welcome to Inform’s Legislation page. The legislation that underpins the work of professionals working with children; young people and their families is crucial to how that work is delivered, but practitioners told us it was difficult to get access to up-to-date accessible information about legislation and how it informs their work.

The legislation on Community Care Inform tackles this problem by giving you digested versions of all the major statutes that govern the work of social workers and other professionals working to support children; young people and their families.

Our legislation is written by Ed Mitchell who is general editor of Social Care Law Today and a practising lawyer drafting legislation for the Welsh Assembly. A large number of statutes are covered (see the links on the right and below) and new legislation is added as it is enacted:

Adoption and Children Act 2002 Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970
Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953 The Care Standards Act 2000
Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

Each piece of digested legislation is accompanied by an overview giving you a guide to the most important sections. The digested legislation also includes links to all the relevant guidance associated with it.

All legislation is updated quarterly and regulations are amended as they added – for example, you will find a link to every one of the amended Children Act 1989 regulations made since the statute was enacted. Subscribers in Wales will find links to all the Welsh regulations.

You can start searching legislation now by putting your search term in the Search Within Legislation box above.
